1. Have you heard of the San Francisco banking company Wells Fargo? Well, they started the very first professional courier service in the USA called Overland Mail Company in 1857.

2. Way back in 1907 The United Parcel Service was founded in a Seattle basement by two teenage boys called Claude Ryan and Jim Casey using a $100 loan. They originally called the delivery service American Messenger Company; however, the name was changed to The United Parcel Service in 1919.

3. In the United Kingdom the first ever delivery service was established in 1516 but this method of shipping was unavailable to the public until over a hundred years later in 1635 When King Charles I came into power. This delivery service was named Royal Mail and then became available for us commoners to use.

5. During the 1900’s, in England there was once an underground rail system named ‘Mail Rail’ which the London Post Office used to transport mail. However, this delivery service was stopped in 2003 as when it became clear that the cost of transporting mail in this manner was far less cost-effective than carrying out deliveries on the streets above.

6. The two words, Courier and Mail are both loosely related, however, no one actually knows where the word mail first came from. It is thought to originate from the English word "male”. In medieval times the word "male" roughly translated to "traveling bag".

6. In 2400BC the Pharaohs of Egypt set up the first ever know standardised courier service and during this era they used it to carry out the delivery of important letters & documents throughout the land.
