Online Shoppers: What Cost Will They Pay For Delivery?

Tuesday, 21 April 2020 at 15:48

The majority of online shoppers in the UK are usually happy to pay for a delivery service for their online purchase to be delivered by courier if it's not too expensive.

Most online shoppers don't expect the delivery of goods to be free, but when purchases cost more than £20.00 they do actually start to expect a free delivery service.

Most people will pay between £2.00 - £5.00 for the delivery, but more than this and they usually deem the delivery cost too high and ditch the item they were considering to buy and look elsewhere.

Many people overbuy meaning they are eligible for free delivery, this is so they avoid the delivery cost and also the return delivery charges.

Online shoppers will wait longer for their delivery, some up to 5 days if the delivery service is free of charge.

Many online customers like to buy from abroad from countries like China or the USA, and again, they are willing to wait far longer for the retailer to ship their goods if it means that the delivery charge is free.

Shops should definitely think about how much they're going to charge consumers for their parcel delivery and what the minimum spend should be because this will have a negative impact on how much shoppers will spend when buying from them online.

As we mentioned above, it’s no surprise that there are many people out there who purposefully overbuy with the intention of sending most of the items back, purely in order to qualify for the free delivery.

The UK shopper is very unique and requires bespoke delivery solutions that enable the retailers to maximise the sales opportunity without impact on profit margins.
