Running A Same Day Courier Service Smoothly
Tuesday, 15 January 2019 at 10:16
As with all businesses, running a Same Day Courier Service is not always straight forward.
Below are a few tips on running one smoothly.
1. COURIER VEHICLE BREAK DOWNS.
You need a reliable vehicle. It doesn’t have to be a large Sprinter van or artic. It just needs to be a vehicle that can be relied on to carry packages safely and get you there on time. You simply must have a reliable vehicle.
2. FRAGILE & HIGH-VALUE ITEMS.
You need to be ready to transport fragile items. You need to keep the item protected, but still be able to drive well with both hands and your attention on the road. Carry some removal blankets and ratchet straps with you in the event you’re asked to transport a fragile or high value item.
3. ADVERTISING BUDGET.
You don’t have to spend a lot of money, or even any money, on advertising if you don’t want to. There are many free ways you can advertise. Try out Facebook, Twitter or list your business on Google. It’s quick and easy and potentially puts your name in front of millions of people. Networking - get out there and talkup your business to prospective customers. Try making a web site or blog.
4. WORK SCHEDULE.
You need to be organised. An organised courier company is a successful courier company. As you start getting more and more jobs, you need to be sure to have a day planner or other scheduling method nearby at all times. Keep track of your jobs, and keep track of your customers. You never want to get a call from a customer asking why your vehicle hasn't arrived to collect their consignment.
5. SATELLITE NAVIGATION.
As a courier, you’re going to be asked to pick up and drop off items at a variety of locations around town, many of which you’ve probably never been to. Maps can help, but are generally difficult and unsafe to use in traffic. You don’t want to be sitting in your van, trying to find a collection or delivery address. The answer SAT NAV - they’re simply a great and easy way to make sure you never get lost again.
Communication is absolutely critical. It is so important to keep your customers informed of any problems, delays or incidents involving their consignment.
